Correctional facility signings

Notary Services for Inmates in Orange County & LA

Most notaries will not do this work. Families need a power of attorney signed, a house sold, a child's custody documented, and the person who has to sign is in custody. I go, by appointment, to six facilities across two counties.

  • Powers of attorney, custody authorizations, deeds, and estate documents
  • Orange County and Los Angeles County facilities
  • Attorneys, bail agents, and families all welcome
  • Prepaid because the trip happens either way. You'll know that before you book

Documents I notarize inside

  • Power of Attorney (general, special, and financial)
  • Child custody and guardianship authorizations
  • Grant deeds and property transfers
  • Divorce and family law paperwork
  • Financial affidavits and bank forms
  • Trust and estate documents
  • Vehicle title transfers
  • Immigration forms (completed by you or your attorney. I do not advise on content)

What stops a signing

I would rather you hear this now than at the window. A jail signing fails for four reasons, and three of them are preventable:

  • The document is incomplete. Preventable. Fill every blank before I go.
  • No valid ID on file. Usually preventable, check with the facility first.
  • The signer refuses or does not understand. Not something anyone can override, and not something I will look past.
  • The facility does not produce the inmate. Lockdown, transfer, medical hold, count. Outside everyone’s control.
Facility signings start at $225, paid in full before the visit, and non-refundable. There is no deposit option. The visit is made whether or not the facility produces the signer. That is the honest deal, stated up front.

Process

How to book one

  1. Finish the document

Attorney-prepared or your own, but complete. I cannot write, correct, or advise on content.

  2. Send me the details

Facility, the person’s full name, booking number if you have it, and what needs signing. Deadlines matter, say so.

  3. I confirm scheduling with the facility

Their calendar, not mine. I’ll tell you the realistic window rather than the one you want to hear.

  4. Prepay to lock it in

Card or Square link. Confirmation goes out as soon as payment is received.

  5. I go, and you hear from me the same day

Signed and notarized documents returned to you, or an honest explanation of what happened if the facility did not produce the signer.

FAQ

Jail signing questions

Can a notary go into a jail?

Yes, with an appointment arranged through the facility's own procedures. Each facility has its own visiting rules, its own scheduling windows, and its own identification requirements for both the notary and the inmate, which is why this is booked in advance rather than walked in.

What does the inmate need?

Valid identification on file at the facility, awareness of what they are signing, and willingness to sign. If the facility cannot verify identity, or if the person does not understand the document or is being pressured, I cannot notarize. That rule protects them, and it exists precisely for situations like custody.

Do the documents have to be finished before you go?

Completely. Every blank filled in except the signature. I cannot prepare a document, correct one, fill in a section, or advise on what it should say. Doing any of that would be practicing law without a license. Have your attorney or the requesting party finish it first.

Why is payment required up front?

Because the trip happens whether or not the facility produces the signer. Lockdowns, transfers, medical holds, and count times all cancel signings after I have already driven there and cleared security. Facility signings start at $225, are paid in full before the visit, and are non-refundable for that reason. There is no deposit option, and I tell every client that before they book, not after.

How fast can you go?

It depends on the facility's schedule more than mine. Some allow next-day appointments; others fill up early in the week. Call rather than email if there is a court date or a deadline attached.

Can you notarize a power of attorney so I can handle someone's affairs?

That is the most common document I handle inside. The person in custody signs it in front of me after I verify their identity, and the notarized original goes back to you. What the document says and whether it covers what you need is a question for an attorney.

Do you work with bail bond agencies and attorneys?

Regularly. Attorneys, bail agents, and title companies are a large part of this work, and repeat professional clients get priority scheduling.

Which facilities do you serve?

Santa Ana Jail, Theo Lacy Facility in Orange, James A. Musick Facility in Irvine, Anaheim Detention Facility, Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, and the Orange County Central Jail Complex in Santa Ana.
